If you can't make it to Provence in person..... Beautiful! Inspirational collection of an artists' wanderings. Moireau captures both the majestic and the mundane in ways that tell the whole story. The tidbits of information add an extra special touch. I'm not sure which I prefer -- the architectural pieces or the landscapes. Wonderful!

In a genre so locked into the concept of predator mates, this series is a breath of fresh air. By mixing predator and prey, it gives the story quite a twist. This is the third of the series. Wolf and squirrel. It builds on the previous two, but can also be read as a stand alone. If your looking for a smooth read, you might want to give this series a shot. Given the length of the book and the lack of grammatical errors, I thought that the price was fairly reasonable.

Premise Was Good, Parts Bothered Me

I've picked up a few books in this series and decided on trying this one. The premise was interesting, a small dragon healer being brought up, basically enslaved to a corrupt alpha. Of course his mate comes to his rescue. . .

So the outline of the story held my attention but there were a few inconclusive topics that bothered me.

The first was when Aris takes Bentley's scale from Balin. It just disappears. I assumed Aris gave it back to Bentley. After all we hear in each and every story how important and valued dragon scales are. Was it made into mate jewelry? I'm assuming so.

Another was that even though Bentley had healing skills, he wasn't 'trained'. Yes he was new to Stan's pack and was learning what life was like with a mate. . . But not once is it suggested he train with Kristoff. Or a talk with the dragon healer about needing an assistant. Again from other stories in this series we know how valued and overworked Kristoff is. He could use a helper, one who is talented in his own right. Who knows, maybe Bentley could control his gift enough to only take pain or to redistribute it to many instead of himself. The possibilities were there but they weren't explored.

Then there was that scene with the shotgun. (I'm not giving out too many spoilers) From what I read it sounded like Bentley and Stan were on pack property but far away from everyone to have a quiet 'swim'. . . You know, privacy. Then it just so happens that dragons were there to capture Balin, subdue him, and no mention of anyone else getting shot, even though more shots were heard. All this and Balin acting without his Beta or Enforcers? For the brute and coward he is, I couldn't picture Balin doing this on his own. I assumed Balin acted the way he did to take back Bentley. But he had to know Bentley would heal Stan. Again, it didn't make sense on Balin's part but then again he wasn't a sane alpha. To top it off, Balin didn't hang around to snatch Bentley. No. The scene did not jive. Or maybe it needed a bit more page space to make sense. As it is I am assuming things.

Then there's the little plot device from book 8. We have someone out to get Kendrick, the fox shifter, to hurt him. (Forgot the guys name but he was the one to kill Kendrick in a previous book) Was this guy mentioned in this story? NOOOOO. That little cliff hanger, of Kendrick's life being endanger, is not concluded or even alluded to in this story. Instead we get happy romps with dragons, wolves, and fox out in the sunshine. . . No worries. . . All is well.

Another conclusion of mine -- Bentley needed some dragon time. Reconnect with his species. Rediscover himself and take pride in who he is.

Yes, I enjoyed the story of Stan and Bentley. Unfortunately the story was just too short. Give it more page space and conclusions and it'd get a better rating. Oh yes. And Bentley will gain confidence enough to top. Yup. Give him some time and let's see Stan waddling around. It would be NICE to see these two in another story and reach their potentials as individuals and as mates. It would have been even better to see that in this book, itself. - Dan's Wife

Prince Charming Wolf

Why did I wait nearly a week to read this great addition to the Of Dragons and Wolves series? And then I waited another week to post this review. Marcy Jacks is so imaginative. I never saw this storyline coming and I enjoyed it so much. A small dragon from a very aggressive, warmongering, and abusive clan ends up with a pack of wolves. Though his situation is better than it had been it is very far from ideal. He is scarred, very thin, anxious, and lonely. He has the gift of healing, but it also a curse. He sacrifices so much for the wolf pack that took him in. He feels a part of it and grateful he's being protected from other much larger, vicious dragons. He gives back to the pack literally until it hurts.

His knight in shining armour comes in the form of a large alpha wolf from a nearby very powerful pack. After being healed by a surprising source - a small scarred dragon who smells heavenly. He is verbally and physically warned not to touch the small dragon after the pack alpha notices his interest. But nothing can deter a strong purpose driven alpha when his goal is his long awaited mate. He doesn't count on how much the pack alpha does not want to lose his little goldmine. This is further complicated by the fact that his little dragon does not realize that he is being taken advantage of and he views the greedy pack alpha as his protector and provider, both of which he has done a piss poor job.

It is nice to see the little dragon emerge from his cocoon, but that is not the end of this story. There is an elevated level of violence in this story, which shoudn't be a surprise to those who have read the first eight books of this series. His reaction to the dragons of Black MOuntain coming down to asist him is disbelieve and fear, since all the dragons from his past were mean, selfish, and directed their anger toward the little dragon. He was so neglected and abused he was never even taugth to fly. This is at times a tragic book, but as in any romance, love conquers all.

Excellent Stories for Teen Girls and Those Who Still Are if Only in Our Hearts

This is the second book in the Valiant Hearts series. I love the strong female characters that the author casts in roles and settings usually restricted to male characters. Kudos to Sleiman for creating fictional role models for young women who wish to follow their hearts instead of society's strictures. The girls in these stories are strong, savvy, and fight for what they believe in. As the mom of a teenage daughter - this is the type of role model that I want my daughter to read about. They make great crossover reading for adults as well. Come on - how many of you women out there would have loved to be Robin Hood or a Knight of the Round Table when you were young? I'm sure I'm not the only tomboy out there.

In any event - I would recommend this book to readers who like strong female characters, whether you're a teen or just love to read YA books. I'm excited to see what comes next in the series!

Ms. Sleiman has stepped up her game (jousting perhaps?!) and given us an Arthurian-inspired medieval story filled with believable characters and a plot packed with twists you won’t see coming.

It’s well-written and filled with vivid imagery, putting you in the middle of the Camelot-like kingdom. I found myself cheering Gwennie and Allen on while wanting to clash my sword with the brute Gawain! This delightful tale will keep you turning the pages until you reach the end.

Ah, the pungent smell of sweat through chain mail. Dina L Sleiman's "Chivalrous" novel is so descriptive that period aromas nearly purge from the pages. Furlongs beyond a shotgun wedding story; Sir Allen (from book one) finds true heart-throbbing romance at the tip of a broadsword. This followed him having first been grounded off his steed by the jousting lance of Lady Gwen. Mayhap to be expected from a peasant upstart. Truly fun Medieval lore.

About the Author

Roger A. Freedman
Roger A. Freedman is a Lecturer in Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Dr. Freedman was an undergraduate at the University of California campuses in San Diego and Los Angeles, and did his doctoral research in theoretical nuclear physics at Stanford University under the direction of Professor J. Dirk Walecka. He came to UCSB in 1981 after three years teaching and doing research at the University of Washington.

At UCSB, Dr. Freedman has taught in both the Department of Physics and the College of Creative Studies, a branch of the university intended for highly gifted and motivated undergraduates. He has published research in nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, and laser physics. In recent years, he has helped to develop computer-based tools for learning introductory physics and astronomy and helped pioneer the use of classroom response systems and the "flipped" classroom model at UCSB. He is co-author of three introductory textbooks: University Physics (Pearson), Universe (Freeman), and Investigating Astronomy (Freeman).

Dr. Freedman holds a commercial pilot's license. He was one of the early organizers of the San Diego Comic-Con, now the world's largest popular culture convention. His likeness has appeared as a supervillian and mad scientist in both DC and Marvel Comics.

Todd G. Ruskell
Todd G. Ruskell is a Teaching Professor in Physics at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) in Golden, CO.

Dr. Ruskell earned a B.A. in Physics at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, and did his doctoral research on scanning probe microscopy techniques at the University of Arizona.� After two years of post-doctoral research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, he joined the faculty at CSM in 1999.� Dr. Ruskell specializes in teaching the introductory physics sequence.� He was one of the early adopters of both on-line homework and personal response systems and continues to refine his use of both technologies.� He was also instrumental in developing the curriculum used in the Physics Studio, where introductory physics is taught to all students at CSM.

Philip R. Kesten
Dr. Philip Kesten, Associate Professor of Physics and Associate Provost for Residential Learning Communities at Santa Clara University, holds a B.S. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his Ph.D. in high energy particle physics from the University of Michigan. Since joining the Santa Clara faculty in 1990, Dr. Kesten has also served as Chair of Physics, Faculty Director of the ATOM and da Vinci Residential Learning Communities, and Director of the Ricard Memorial Observatory. He has received awards for teaching excellence and curriculum innovation, was Santa Clara's Faculty Development Professor for 2004-2005, and was named the California Professor of the Year in 2005 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Education. Dr. Kesten is also co-founder of Docutek, A SirsiDynix Company, an Internet software company, and served as the Senior Editor for Modern Dad, a newsstand magazine.

David L. Tauck
Dr. David Tauck, Associate Professor of Biology, holds both a B.A. in biology and an M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury College. He earned his Ph.D. in physiology at Duke University and completed post-doctoral fellowships at Stanford University and Harvard University in anesthesia and neuroscience, respectively. Since joining the Santa Clara University faculty in 1987 he has served as Chair of the Biology Department, the College Committee on Rank and Tenure, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee; he has also served as President of the local chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Tauck currently serves as the Faculty Director in Residence of the da Vinci Residential Learning Community.

The best book of physics for non-specialists in a long time

This is a remarkably good physics book for medicine and biology students. I was particularly impressed with the "Watch Out!" and "Got the Concept?" boxes, whose purpose is to address some common physics misconceptions. The examples and problems are well chosen, the text is crisp and the illustrations are great. I recommend it without reservation.

Buy Preliminary Edition if you're smart

By purchasing the preliminary version instead of the original I saved $60 and practically got the same thing! The only difference was the end of chapter problem sets were missing. They weren't used in my class anyway. If you want to save $60 to $80 this is the route to go. I'll there's a preliminary edition of a book i'll always buy that one from now own.
