Exellent !!!

I bought and read 3 books titled with Nikon D5200. I have never considered myself as a "Dummy" or an "Idiot" so those type book titles never appealed to me. However after reading the first 3 books and still not sure how to use my $1000+ toy I was beginning to wonder if maybe I was ????? ... so... I ordered this one for dummies. This lady is a teacher!!! Best laid out and executed instructional book on any subject I have ever read. Book is on quality paper, full of instructional pictures (worth a 1000 words) and the author anticipated my needs and questions. There is a difference between knowing how to operate a camera and how to "use" a camera (I figured out the left-right arrows, scrolling, and selecting stuff all by myself in less than 5 min) this is all the other books dealt with, endless pages of sequence button pushing. By using this book I learned how to "use" my camera, not just "operate" it. Don't waste your time or money with the other rewrites of the owners manual, this is an Excellent book, Ms King is to be congratulated!!

Nikon D5200 For Dummies

I haven't gotten through this entire book yet, but from what I've seen of it thus far, I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs to get up to speed with all the ins and outs of a digital SLR camera, especially the Nikon D5200 which has an amazing amount of functions. The book starts out giving you an overview of the basics and then gets into the more technical aspects. The pages are filled with color photos, which I found to be extremely helpful, and there are also little icons in many of the margins that give you special tips, as well as some warnings, about what to do and what not to do. The fact that the author occasionally throws a little humor into her words was sort of a refreshing touch. I think you will enjoy her writing style while you are also learning how to make the most out of your D5200. I know I have been gaining a lot from the information "Nikon 5200 For Dummies" provides. It is an excellent reference guide that provides a wealth of information written in language that is easy to understand.

Not bad; but did not answer all of my questions as a new D5200 user

I think I have to agree with some of the other evaluations. I found that some of the pictures and instructions did not match exactly with my D5200 camera. One of my biggest frustrations was with the basic step of Adjusting the Viewfinder to your eyesight. I could not find exactly how to do this critical step. How far away should the subject be; what kind of lighting? I wear glasses, how does that impact the adjustment? Should I wear my glasses or not? One other thing I would like to see is a way to convert suggested settings from other sources to match the settings on this camera. For example: I recently received advice to set my exposure to EV=+1.3. I have no idea how to do that on my Nikon 5200.

About the Author
A Professor of Management at the University of California-Davis, Professor Maher previously taught at the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and the University of Washington. He also worked on the audit staff at Arthur Andersen & Co. and was a self-employed financial consultant for small -businesses. He received his BBA from Gonzaga University (which named him Distinguished Alumnus in 1989), and his MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Washington, and earned the CPA from the state of Washington. Professor Maher is president of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association, and has served on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Management Accounting Research, and Management Accounting. Co-author of two leading textbooks, Principles of Accounting and Managerial Accounting, Maher has co-authored several additional books and monographs, including Internal Controls in U.S. Corporations and Management Incentive Compensation Plans, and published articles in many journals, including Management Accounting, The Journal of Accountancy, The Accounting Review, The Journal of Accounting Research, Financial Executive, and The Wall Street Journal. For his research on internal controls, Maher was awarded the American Accounting Association's Competitive Manuscript Award and the AICPA Notable Contribution to Literature Award. Meh.

I rented the book from Amazon for the online semester, so there was no access code to WileyPlus and I had to purchase it separately. Frankly I didn't even need the textbook, WileyPlus has the whole book online. I've barely touched the book since Chapter 3.

This textbook is, well, a textbook. It's dull, dry and challenging to absorb many of the lessons. I find most of the examples confusing and unclear, so I just do a Google search for the principle being taught, then go back to WileyPlus to do a review, work practice problems and do my homework. I was struggling in class at first, but now that I've adopted this method I'm doing much better! Next semester, I will be using the same book for Accounting Principles II, but I will not extend the rental.

This book changed my life.

Wow, what a phenomenal book. I like to read this before I go to sleep at night. It calms me down and I will read about different cost allocations as though I'm counting sheep. It's so soothing to see numbers all over the page. I don't know what I would do without this book. I would recommend everyone to buy a second copy to place under a firm pillow. I hear that some people can absorb material directly through this process. I never knew I lacked so much knowledge in cost accounting. I would have tried to apply my indirect overhead costs to the wrong activities had I not read this book.

Handy reference.

The Sky atlas companion goes along perfectly with the Sky Atlas itself. Everyone of those obscure deep sky objects, like those open clusters not in the NGC, have little entries. If you have the Sky Atlas 2000 already, this book is a great supplement.

essential, minimal key to sky atlas 2000

other reviewers have drilled down on details of this book's contents, so i'll limit myself to a few dissents. the book is essentially an alphabetical directory of all the marked deep sky objects in the sky atlas 2000, about a dozen items listed on each page. given for each item is its type (galaxy, open cluster, planetary nebula, globular cluster, etc.), constellation, precise celestial coordinates, angular size, visual magnitude and the sky atlas 2000 chart(s) where it is found, followed by a brief description that includes for example its physical size, number of stars, distance in light years, and (for galaxies) the hubble type.

this book is designed to be used directly alongside the sky atlas; it's not a stand alone reference. one reviewer complained about the cross referencing system: this is based on the sky atlas 2000 labeling with an implicit preference ordering (explained in the introduction, page ix). thus, the same object is labeled NGC3587, M97, The Owl Nebula on chart 2 of the sky atlas, but you must look under "owl nebula" to find its entry in the companion -- proper names are given precedence over catalog numbers and, among catalogs, the messier number takes precedence over the NGC number. (caldwell numbers are not used in the sky atlas but are cross referenced to their NGC or other number in the companion.) the same reviewer complained that there was no named star list but this is already given in the sky atlas index, along with the messier list and a list of constellations. and while the book is not spiral bound and does not lie flat for pages near the front or back covers, spiral bindings often chafe, crimp or tear pages if you try to turn pages too quickly, which isn't very friendly in a lookup reference.

for me, the big lapse in this book is its failure to elucidate the catalogs referred to. what exactly does NGC, or C, or B, or Pal, or IC, J, E, vdB, UGC, SL, SH, Ru or PK refer to? who compiled the lists, and when, and why, and what objects do they contain, and how many? just "NGC" without a number would serve as the perfect place to insert a brief description of this huge list and how it was compiled from 18th and 19th century observations, and "IC" could explain why this supplemental catalog was necessary. the catalogs are not even identified in the bibliography: instead, bare denotations ("B is for Barnard") are buried in the text without further comment.

Star Hopping or Page Hopping?

I received my sky atlas 2000 second edition companion book (I should receive the atlas this week). It is pretty good but right off the bat I have a complaint. In the main section of the book they only list the details of an object by its common name. This is a pain. For example, lets say that you are looking up M57. So you turn to all of the M's and when you get to M57 it say "Please see Ring Nebula" so then you have to flip to the R's and find Ring Nebula. Now if you also want to look up M58 you now have to go back to the M's (what a pain). I guess I will have to go through the book and write in at least the chart number of each object. I wish they would have at least done that. Their note could have said something like. "Chart 8, see Ring Nebula for additional information" Besides that the book is pretty good and they have different ways of looking up things. They even have a section that has all of the DSO's per map.

Now has far as each object that is listed goes the book lacks detail. The only thing provided is the bare minimum. So if you want additional information I guess you will have to go to the web. A small picture of each object even if it were black and white would have been nice.

Another thing missing although it might have made the book to big is a listing of bright stars and double stars. They recommend another two volume book or a CD ROM for that info. Having the double stars listed would have given the user a whole new set of night targets. And having the bright stars listed would have been nice even if they only gave the RA and DEC. If the RA and DEC's were listed the user could use this information as jumping off points when trying to find the DSO's.

It looks like I might have to pick up another set of books to help me with my jumping off points. But I will wait until I receive my atlas before deciding.

The book does what it is supposed to do and that is tell you what chart each object is located on and for that it does pretty darn good. I just wish they would have gone the extra mile and made the book a little more useful.

A little more information about the SA 2000 Companion:

The book says it contains descriptions and data for all 2,700 Star Clusters, Nebulae, and Galaxies shown in the Sky Atlas 2000.0 2nd edition.

The main section of the book, pages 1-227 is a complete listing of all the DSO's in alphabetical order. Quoting from the book "here is where you turn if you already have an object in mind and want to know three things:

1. Whether or not it is shown in the atlas 2. If so what char or charts it appears on 3. It celestial coordinates, size, brightness, and a description of its physical characteristics and appearance in a backyard telescope.

Next, the chart key on pages 228-229 is a miniature, simplified version of that found at the end of the atlas itself - a useful reminder of the chart layout.

Finally, the appendix on pages 231-281 alphabetically list all DSO's objects again, this time by chart number. Each of the atlas's large charts 1-26 is dealt with in turn, followed by each of the close-up charts of selected regions (A1 - A5, B1 & B2). This section of the book can be of help when you want to explor a particular reigon of the sky. Let's say you are already viewing the galaxy M33, which appears on Chart 4 of the atlas. You can turn to page 237 for a compact "hit list" of other object that, because they are alos on Chart 4, are similarly placed for viewing at the same time of the night or season of the year.. The appendix includes only the bare essentials: Object name, type, celestial coordinates, apparent magnitude, and constellation."

I like the Alphabetical list a lot. It makes it quick and easy to find objects. And because it's alphabetical all of the M's (for the most part, more on this in a minute), NGC's, IC's or other lists are all together. This prevents the need for multiple lists. Now the bad part of the book is that they have broken out some objects out of a common list because of a common name. Here are some examples of what I mean. Right off the bat when you get to M1 there is a note that says - See Crab Nebula; So you have to turn back in the book to the C's to find Crab Nebula it's a pain. M1 is on page 47 but Crab Nebula is on page 18. So I wrote in my book under M1 that information. If they would have simply said under M1 See Crab Nebula, Page 18, Chart 5 that would have been better. If they would have said "Crab Nebula, SNR Tau 05h 34.5m +22� 01' 6x4 Chart 5 mag. 8.4" it would have been perfect.

So going down the M list in the book these are a few of the ones you either have to flip forward or backwards in the book for with nothing more than a description that says "See so and so". M8 See Lagoon Nebula, M16 See Eagle Nebula (I wrote in page 25 charts 15 & 16), M17 See Omega Nebula, M20 See Trifid Nebula (I wrote in Page 223, Chart 22). While M20 is listed on page 49. I think you can see my frustration... With a little more effort they could have made the book a whole lot better.

NGC's

First let me start by saying every NGC is not listed. In fact the first one is NGC 14 then it jumps to 16, then to 23 and 24, then to 40, then to 45, then to 50, then to 55. The last NGC entry is 7822. The same nonsensical logic is applied here. For example NGC 7092 on page 200 say See M39 which is on (hang on let me look it up) page 51, chart 9.

If these flaws were corrected and a better description written about the object the book would be nearly perfect for what it is designed to do.

Drawing Straws: Tork, Sean Michael

Oh, me! Book 3 has been hard to read, because of Damon's illness, and also because I've seen it firsthand in my family. However, The author has done a masterful job of illustrating that love can conquer so many hurts and concerns. And these guys (I'm thinking of them as real, a testament to the author) are awesome! It makes me wish I could be part of such a group in real life. Love is such a beautiful thing, especially when four guys are involved! Thanks, Sean, for reminding us.

Absolutely amazing.....Although Damon is half way through his chemo sessions he still pushes to meet at the cabin to draw straws.....Tork is the lucky bottom....There isn't as much sex in this one as a lot of their attention is to look after Damon....I loved this one though...They truly are all meant to be together...A perfect story and next we'll get Damon who hopefully will be fully recovered x

Another great one! I just love this group of guys! I keep checking (not stalking) this author's FB page to determine when the next one in this series is to release. The whole series is worth the read and if you have not read them all by this author, get them now! They are HOT but the connection and love between these characters is fabulous. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

As I have studied other books on neuromuscular cases, I can confidently write and say that Dr. Bertorini's approach in writing, selection of cases, and explanation is outstanding. I thank and congratulate Dr. Bertorini for writing this wonderful book, who shared his wealth of knowledge and clinical experience with this book. The book is useful for both neurologists and other medical professionals who treat patients with neuromuscular diseases, including disorders of the motor neuron, peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction, muscle, and autonomic nerve system.

Excellent book, seems like this author is an authority in neuromuscular world. I purchased this book in neurophs fellowship and still learning from its cases. Recommended dose: Each day 2 cases atleast not more than this to avoid EMG withdrawl CRDs....!

Worthy of the Fellowship

This is a really great in depth look into the most bizarre album in the KISS catalog. Some fans love this album, some hate it. Musically it's the most diverse thing they ever did. But it was so out of the realm of what was expected from this band that it fell on deaf ears. There are some amazing interviews with all sorts of people who had a hand in the making, recording and promoting of this album. I personally enjoy this album very much but, at the time, I wish they didn't make it. It was the straw that broke the camels back for Ace Frehley and he left the band soon after. The book is filled with great stories that may have never been known to KISS fans before. It was an intriguing, tumultuous time in the bands history and this book covers it pretty well. My only complaint, and it's more of an observation, is that the band members themselves were not interviewed. An Ace Frehley interview solely about this album would have put this over the top for me. Gene & Paul would have been great but they say the same stuff over and over again anyway. Plus the Bob Ezrin interview desperately needed to be longer and more in depth. However it ends in classic Ezrin fashion. I would say you would need to be a fan of KISS to buy this book, not necessarily a fan of the album. If you were fan and alive through all this in 1981/82 then this book is a must have. It is the perfect companion to an album that was confusing as hell back then.

Love it and any KISS or Elder fan must have!

Awesome insight into a great album that unfortunately almost ended the KISS legacy. It was weird when it came out but if you listen to the songs in the intended order you get it and this even delves deeper. Maybe they will make a movie and do it right. It could use some updating but it might just work.

About the Author
Ms. Ann Shaffer has contributed to several books about computers, including NEW PERSPECTIVES ON MICROSOFT WORD. She began a career in textbook publishing as a Development Editor for William C. Brown and is now a freelance technical editor and writer. Ms. Shaffer holds a Master's degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Mr. Patrick Carey received his M.S. in Biostatistics from the University of Wisconsin, where he worked as a researcher designing and analyzing clinical studies. He co-authored his first textbook on using Excel as a statistical tool. Today, Mr. Carey has authored or co-authored more than 20 leading academic and trade texts for the software industry.

June Parsons purchased her first computer, an Apple II+, in 1981 and quickly became fluent in BASIC, dBASE II, Lotus 123, WordStar, and a variety of accounting programs. The next year she opened a successful small computer retail store with Dan Oja that also offered software instruction to children and adults. Dr. Parsons taught at the university level for more than 20 years. She holds a doctorate in Educational Technology and was certified by the ICCP in 1995. Dr. Parsons began writing and creating educational software for Course Technology in 1992. She contributed to the Windows for Business and Illustrated Series and developed the New Perspectives, e-Course, and Practical series. She works via the Internet with a team of highly skilled media specialists and desktop publishers located in various states and provinces.

An esteemed professional and respected author, Dan Oja, along with June Parsons, purchased an Apple II+ in 1981 and quickly became fluent in BASIC, dBASE II, Lotus 123, WordStar, and a variety of accounting programs. The next year, he and Dr. Parsons opened a successful small computer retail store that offered software instruction to children and adults. This book continues the fundamental work of Arnold Sommerfeld and David Hestenes formulating theoretical physics in terms of Minkowski space-time geometry. We see how the standard matrix version of the Dirac equation can be reformulated in terms of a real space-time algebra, thus revealing a geometric meaning for the “number i” in quantum mechanics. Next, it is examined in some detail how electroweak theory can be integrated into the Dirac theory and this way interpreted in terms of space-time geometry. Finally, some implications for quantum electrodynamics are considered.The presentation of real quantum electromagnetism is expressed in an addendum. The book covers both the use of the complex and the real languages and allows the reader acquainted with the first language to make a step by step translation to the second one.

This book was required for a college course I took, but it is still a fantastic tool! It is one of the best textbooks I have used, and as a senior I have been through quite a few. It contains many ideas for interdisciplinary subjects in the classroom as well as many projects and activities to engage students in the classroom. I hope to use many ideas throughout my career.
